French acoustic expert joins hands with Modi Digital

An architectural acoustic and sound system designer from France has joined hands with the Chennai-based consultant and equipment supplier, Modi Digital Audio Pvt. Ltd. The arrangement can prove extremely beneficial to their fast expanding customer base for Genelec active monitors, particularly in 5.1 surround sound applications.
Thirty-nine years old Didier Weiss has a degree in Electronics, Computer systems, Physics and Structural Engineering from Belfort Institute of Technology, France. From 1982 to 1984 he worked as a maintenance engineer for pro-audio recording facilities on Neve, Studer and MCI equipment. From 1984 to 1994 he functioned as a free-lance sound engineer in some of the well-known recording studios in Paris on SSL & Neve VR mixing boards and Sony 3324 & 3348 DASH recording machines.
Concurrently, for two years, he also lectured in Acoustics, Electro-acoustics systems, Audio pro recording and P.A. applications

at the University of Poitiers in France. He then founded Studio Latitude in Paris. Since 1987, he has acquired rich experience as an Architectural Acoustic & Sound System Designer in France and India. In the year 2000, he founded Sound Wizard, an Audio Design and Consultancy Company based in Pondicherry.
Under the arrangement between Modi Digital Audio and Didier Weiss, customers will have the added advantage of obtaining specialist advice on studio and control room design right from the planning stage. This has been a neglected aspect in many such projects set up in India in recent years, leading to disharmony between the installed audio equipment and their performance parameters. With the advent of 5.1 surround sound, a more professional approach to studio designing is gaining ground. Experts like Didier Weiss and Modi Digital Audio can now jointly ensure the appropriate selection of world-class monitors like Genelec and optimum utilization of their fine craftsmanship.

SSL introduces MT Production digital console
Solid State Logic has introduced its new MT Production (MTP) digital production console. MT Production, based on SSL’s latest MT Plus in-line digital console, embodies a host of new features only made possible by SSL’s advanced HS Control Processing, a new and powerful processing engine that gives operators more options and greater information feedback, especially important for surround sound mixing.
MTP features comprehensive snapshot reset, flexible subgroup bussing, full multi-format surround sound capabilities, and is available in a compact, lightweight package for multi-track television, and music/entertainment applications. For remote trucks, MTP Mobile, a version featuring a reduced console centre section while maintaining all the functionality of the original with full 96-channel processing in a standard non-expanding truck width - will also be introduced.
Utilising SSL’s proven and popular in-line, knob-per-function ergonomic design, MTP combines in-line mixing architecture with simultaneous

TL Audio unveil new Valve mixer

TL Audio has unveiled the latest addition to the Valve Classics range: the M-3 "TubeTracker" 8/2 valve mixer.
The M-3 builds on the success of the award winning VTC valve console by offering a compact and supremely sweet sounding valve solution for all tracking and submixing applications. Now at last a small format analogue mixer is available that offers all the benefits of TL Audio’s heritage in valve technology, without any of the compromises in audio quality associated with budget mixers.
Each of the M-3’s 8 channels features discrete valve mic preamps, four band EQ with swept mids (based on that of the VTC), a pair of auxiliary sends and a post-fader direct out for direct-to-multitrack recording. A simple yet flexible master section is based around a stereo valve mix buss, with a pair of

auxiliary returns, comprehensive monitoring and metering options and an optional stereo digital output.
Multiple M-3s can be linked to provide an unlimited number of channels - the link facility connects each unit’s mix, PFL and auxiliary busses to create a true expansion of mixing capacity. The M-3 is suitable for 19" rack mounting or table top use.
Sales and Marketing Manager Howard Jones commented "We’ve had a lot of requests for a compact valve mixer from those users who love the concept of the VTC but are looking for something smaller, simpler and of course lower in price. For those users looking for a fat front end for their digital recorder, a classy submixer for their large format console or a pristine quality mixer for live music recording then the TubeTracker will deliver expensive sounding results without breaking the bank."

multichannel surround-sound outputs to ensure maximum format flexibility for programme material. In television production applications, the console’s flexible busses support clean feeds, mix-minus outputs and full multitrack back-up capabilities. MTP also offers a configurable panning and output bus structure that allows its 12 main mix busses to support flexible and powerful arrangements such as simultaneous 5.1 output for international versions. Comprehensive control grouping, snapshot/reset capabilities and selectable automation complete the versatile package.
The central concern of every audio console is the sound quality, and the MT Production takes sonic sensibilities to new heights with the NiTECH SuperPre analogue-to-digital input stage. Analogue input has been tuned to exceed the performance of the universally acclaimed SL 9000 J Series SuperAnalogue console and low-latency conversion circuitry is combined with full console-surface control, analogue foldback returns and insert points prior to 24-bit conversion to the digital domain.
The all-new optional INFO Faders are designed to give extensive visual and tactile feedback of null points to the operator.
