ADAG plans two movie channels |

Ambani-promoted Reliance Entertainment is lik-ely to launch its
directto- ho-me transmi s s ion service by the end of the year,
accor-ding to a senior company ex-ecutive. The DTH launch would
be supplemented with the launch of two movie cha-nnels, one in
Hindi and the other in English. The comp-any has already begun
hiring people to run the channels. Reliance Entertainment also
plans to launch two news channels around mid-2008. All the
television channels of Reliance Entertainment wou-ld have the
name Big, a label it uses for its FM radio cha-nnel launched
through Adla-bs Films, the official said. Reliance ADAG holds a
co-ntrolling stake in Adlabs.

Sahara
One Media & Ent-ertainment christened its new Hindi
entertainment channel as ‘Firangi’. Firangi has pro-posed to
bring in a comp-letely new genre of entertain-ment to the
viewers and bre-ak a new ground with the creation of the ‘world
televi-sion category’. The channel would source the wide spec-trum
of entertainment progr-amming from across the globe to target
predomina-ntly adult viewers. In a dep-arture from the
conventional Hindi entertainment progra-mming, ‘Firangi’ will
introdu-ce its viewers to the world’s mostwatched novellas,
sitco-ms, short series, adventure series and world cinema. The
channel has appointed Rajeev Chakrabarti as its Business Head. |

UTV to invest Rs 600 cr in 9 channels |
|
Mumbai-based media
company UTV Software Communications will invest Rs 600 crore
over the next three years for launching a bo-uquet of nine
television channels. |

The four Bindass
channels would entail an investment of Rs 270 crore, while the
company will inv-est Rs 320 crore in five other channels,
including an English business new channel,

targeting 80 per cent connectivity in Hindi speaking areas in
next one year, Mehta said. |

INX signs Ideal Systems for broadcasting
support |

INX Network has inked a deal with Ideal
Systems under which the latter will provide systems design and
integration services for news and playout facilities for INX’s
channels. Through this deal, the Network plans to forge ahead and
launch three more channels in India.

Wizcraft sets up television
arm |

Looking at the demand for television content
from the slew of television cha-nnels set to hit television screens
in India, event management and entertainment ba-sed company Wizcraft
International has stepped into television content produc-tion. The
company has set up Wizcraft Television as a separate division to
televi-sion content. Sarkari, who heads Wizcraft |
Television says, “We already have a huge library
of event-based content which forms the staple programming for
general entertainment channels (GECs) on wee-kends. Producing
television content is like a natural progression for us and our
technological strengths in producing multi-cam setups will give us
an edge in the reality shows.” |
